What Is a NEMT / Medical Transportation Driver?

NEMT stands for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation. As a NEMT driver — also called a medical driver, patient transport driver, or healthcare transportation driver — you safely transport people to and from medical appointments and everyday destinations. It is one of the most stable and rewarding transportation driver jobs available, and most positions (including ours) require no CDL.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM, plus up to four hours on one Saturday per month. Location: Reporting to our company vehicle location in the Chesapeake / Norfolk / Virginia Beach area, serving clients throughout Hampton Roads and — increasingly — all of Virginia.

We hold a high bar because our clients are some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Here’s what you’ll need to be considered for this medical driver job.

Must-Haves

  • At least 25 years old (insurance requirement)
  • Available Monday–Friday, 7 AM–6 PM, plus up to 4 hours one Saturday per month
  • Reliable transportation to and from the company vehicle location
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean 7-year record — no DUIs, DWIs, felonies, or major violations
  • Valid Social Security card
  • Able to pass a national & county background check and a 10-panel urine drug test
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs using proper technique
  • Fluent in English — reading, writing, and speaking
